MeshCentral - RDP improvements & clipboard, Router Custom Apps, SSH / SFTP integration

This week we have many more improvements and fixes that have been mostly requested by the community on GitHub. Following last week’s integration of the web-based RDP client, many improvements have been made to RDP support including mouse wheel and clipboard support. The MeshCentral Router was improved with support for custom applications and this week, the web based SSH terminal and SFTP file transfer clients where both integrated into the web site for use with devices that have MeshAgents. In detail:

  • Web-based RDP improvements. Building on last week’s RDP integration into MeshCentral, this week saw many improvements to the RDP client. You can now specify an alternate starting shell; this is useful for starting up applications into a dedicated RDP session. The mouse wheel is now supported along with shortcut keys, remote typing and most importantly the addition of clipboard support in both directions. You can now pull or push text of your clipboard to the remote device’s clipboard. There is also an “Automatic Clipboard” mode that will sync the clipboards automatically.
  • MeshCentral Router Improvements. MeshCentral Router is used to perform TCP and UDP port mappings thru a MeshCentral server. This has a lot of uses and is getting even better this week with the support for custom applications. You can now setup a new protocol and associate an application to open when this protocol is requested. You can configure the application to run with command line arguments and so, the custom application should open and connect directly to the mapped port.
  • SSH and SFTP integration. MeshCentral has had a built-in web-based client for SSH and SFTP for a long time now, but this week, the integration of both these protocols was improved so that you can now perform SSH or SFTP connections to devices that run a MeshAgent on Linux, macOS or BSD. For both protocols, you can change the port number used, the default being TCP port 22. These integrations are very useful if you want to open a SSH session with a specific user identity. This integration was done on both the MeshCentral desktop and mobile web sites.
  • Updated Code Signing Certificate. Last week I got my latest code signing certificate for Windows applications that is valid for 1 year. All signed applications have been updated to the new certificate. This includes MeshCommander, MeshCentral Router, MeshCentral Assistant, MeshCentral Installer. For all these applications, running them should show a indication the application is signed and who signed it.

Many other features have been added and bug fixes included. As usual, feedback is appreciated. If you see any problems or need support on something, please create a new issue on GitHub or help other users. For more information, visit the portal at https://meshcentral.com.

Enjoy!
