MeshCentral - 1k Stars, Sendmail, SSO, Quick Type, Assistant

A notable milestone happened last week as MeshCentral crossed 1000 stars on GitHub which is wonderful. In addition, lots of new features where added. For example, MeshCentral now has built-in support for Telnyx SMS provider, support was added for sending email using the sendmail command, improvements were made to MeshCentral Assistant and much more. The last two weeks have been excellent with a lot of community activity. In detail:

  • 1000+ Stars on GitHub. The initial commit of MeshCentral to GitHub was on August 28, 2017. Since them, the community has ramped up and last week, the MeshCentral GitHub repository reached over 1000 stars. This is a wonderful achievement and shows how much interest the project is getting. Thank you to everyone in the community for the participation.
  • Sendmail support. Administrators can configure and use the Linux “sendmail” command to send email messages. With the latest version of MeshCentral, the built-in email support can now also be configured to use this command. This makes it easy for administrators to setup MeshCentral to send emails for address validation, password recovery, two-factor authentication, and various notifications.
  • Multi-Domain SSO support. It’s now possible to setup single sign-on like OAuth and SAML for multiple MeshCentral domains at the same time. That means that a single MeshCentral server running multiple domains can now have a domain setup with, for example, Azure active directory while at the same time, another MeshCentral domain can be setup with JumpCloud or another SSO provider. This offers better flexibility for administrators with complicated MeshCentral installations. Also last week, a new video premiered on using MeshCentral with JumpCloud.
  • Quick Typing. In the remote desktop tab of MeshCentral, users can now right-click on the “Type” button to setup and customize their quick typing strings. For example, if you have a URL you need to type often, you can setup it up once and right click on “Type” and select the URL to type it to the remote system. Perfect for technicians that has of strings they need to type often you can try any pre-setup string in 2 clicks.
  • MeshCentral Assistant Self Sharing. MeshCentral Assistant is software that can be run on remote computers to offer on-demand help only when needed. This week, Assistant got a few improvements including a new option to self-share your remote desktop. This feature needs to be enabled on the server and allows a user to create a temporary guest sharing URL that can be given to someone else to remotely control the system for a limited time.
  • MeshCentral Assistant Auto-Accept Consent. Another new feature in MeshCentral Assistant is a new option to automatically accept user consent for the next 5 minutes for a given administrator. This is useful if someone is disconnecting and reconnecting often.

Many more bugs have also been addressed. As usual, feedback is appreciated. If you see any problems or need support on something, please create a new issue on GitHub or help other users. For more information, visit the portal at https://meshcentral.com.

Enjoy!
