MeshCentral - YouTube, Sessions, Notifications, File Upload, Last Folder

We are having a great week with a lot of community participation, many bug fixes, and lots of new features. This week, the user interface has gotten better for both the desktop and mobile web sites. The most fun new demonstration you can now perform is having a friend remote to a computer and as administrator, cutting them off in real time. Very cool, but I am sure this power can be quite annoying if abused. On the social media front, the MeshCentral YouTube channel is doing great. In detail:

  • YouTube Channel. By chance I happen to see the view counter on the MeshCentral YouTube channel just cross the 22k mark. Thank you to everyone who is interested in MeshCentral and the amazing community around it. New videos continue to premiere every Wednesday with plenty more topics to cover. Next week’s video will be on setting up a SMTP email server with MeshCentral and all the new features enabled when doing this.
  • Session Control. When remote desktop, terminal or file session are active on a device, a blue dot shows up next to the device and administrators can see in real time who is active on what device. Starting this week, administrators can now disconnect sessions in real time. Users can also disconnect their own sessions. If you forgot to close a browser on a different computer, you can close the session from anywhere. Just hit the blue dot on a device and hit the trash icon to dispose of a session.
  • Per-device connection state notifications. Last week, MeshCentral got a new feature where users could opt to receive email notifications when devices part of a device group would connect or disconnect. This week, this same feature can be opted into on a per-device bases. So now, you can select a specific device and get notifications when only that device connects or goes offline. Perfect for tracking only your important devices. Like before, email notifications are sent as most every 5 minutes.
  • File Upload Resume/Skip. When uploading a file to a remote device that already have the same file name, MeshCentral will now look to see if it can resume a previous upload. The MeshAgent will perform a SHA384 hash of the remote file, and if the hash matches the start of the uploaded file, the file transfer is resumed at the correct position. In addition, it the remote file is of identical size and hash, the upload is skipped entirely. This feature allows administrators to resume big files and improve time and traffic efficiency when uploading many files in some cases. Desktop, mobile, sharing sites and MeshCentral Router all support this new feature.
  • Remember Last Remote Device Folder. When connecting to remote devices with the “Files” tab, the browser will automatically navigate to the same folder that was previously opened for this device. Browser state is used to store the last 40 devices connected paths and re-open that path on re-connection. This is perfect when accessing the same remote folder on a device, users don’t have to navigate back to the same location each time they connect.

Many more bugs have also been addressed. As usual, feedback is appreciated. If you see any problems or need support on something, please create a new issue on GitHub or help other users. For more information, visit the portal at https://meshcentral.com.

Enjoy!
