MeshCentral - YouTube, Improved Reports, Traffic Accounting, Session Recordings
Note that I will be on vacation until October 5th, Bryan Roe will keep development moving forward. Since I last mentioned it, 5 more YouTube videos have premiered covering a range of topics from features and technical topics. In the last week, the new report generation feature was much improved along with traffic accounting. Lastly, there is now a new way to specify device session recording by user groups. In detail:
- MeshCentral YouTube Channel. The MeshCentral YouTube channel is doing well with over 17k views and over 500 subscribers. In the last 5 weeks, two technical videos where added doing a code review of the server and going into details on the two ways the MeshAgent is automatically updated on client platforms. There is a new video on how to get help and file feature requests and bug reports and a new video on basic Intel® AMT activation and use.
- Improved Report Generation. Last week, MeshCentral got a new report generation tool allowing administrators to see what user sessions have been active and for how long. This week, this feature was much improved with proper per-protocol totals, session bytes in/out and device groups. There is also a new report type to show the total session time and traffic impact each user has on the server. Like I mentioned last week, these reports can be very useful for billing customers or monitoring hosting costs.
- Improved Traffic Accounting. To generate proper reports, server traffic must be correctly accounted for when each session closes. This is straight forward for regular sessions but gets a lot more complicated when the desktop multiplexor is involved. MeshCentral allows multiple users to see the same device at the same time with the agent sending a single desktop stream to the server that is then “split” among the users. With the latest version of MeshCentral, the agent side traffic is now split amount the remote users and this, even as users connect and disconnect their remote desktop sessions. The traffic accounting does take into consideration web socket compression for more accurate data.
- User Group Session Recording. It’s now possible to enable recording of remote desktop and terminal sessions by user groups. MeshCentral user groups allow an administrator to quickly grant a user access to lots of device rights by singly adding then to a user group. Now, you can set the user group session recording feature to have all sessions from the user group recorded for later audit.
This is just some of improvements this week, many more bugs have also been addressed. As usual, feedback is appreciated. If you see any problems or need support on something, please create a new issue on GitHub or help other users. For more information, visit the portal at https://meshcentral.com.
Enjoy!
