MeshCentral - YouTube, Local Devices, SSH, Traffic, Certificates and Android.

It’s somewhat of a good problem when features and improvements are being made to MeshCentral faster than the blogs come out. This week again there is plenty more to showcase. The MeshCentral YouTube Channel is doing well, with almost 3000 channel views mostly from the last two weeks. MeshCentral got a new device group type this week along with a new web based SSH client, new traffic accounting and more. In detail:

  • MeshCentral YouTube channel. Six more videos have been posted since the last time I mentioned the channel. The new videos cover advanced MeshCentral server setup, scripting, login and 2FA. Because the channel has over 100 subscribers now, YouTube gives a nicer channel URL, so you can now use https://youtube.com/c/meshcentral to access all of the MeshCentral videos. Also, all videos now have time markers so you can quickly find the section of the video you’re looking for. As a reminder, new videos are posted every Wednesday.
  • Local Device Group. Since the beginning, MeshCentral has two device group type: “Agent management” and “Intel AMT only (no agent)”. This last week, MeshCentral got a new device group type to access local devices without agent and without Intel AMT. This new device group type is only available when MeshCentral is in “Local” or “Hybrid” mode and allows a user to add a device that is on the same network as MeshCentral. You can then use MeshCentral Router, or the web-based clients (RDP and VNC) to access the devices. This makes MeshCentral a great tool to access on-prem devices without agents.
  • Built in wed-based SSH client. Another big feature that was added in the last week is the addition of a new web based SSH client into MeshCentral. So, you can now SSH to a remote device directly from the web site. No need to use Putty or another SSH client anymore, it’s built into MeshCentral. Currently, only password authentication is supported. The new SSH client is perfect when paired with the new local device group type. You can add and SSH to devices thru the MeshCentral server using only a browser.
  • MeshCentral traffic accounting. In the last few days, additional traffic counters where added to MeshCentral to count data coming in and out of the server. Data is counted by type and so and there is a new graph available in the “My Server” / “Stats” page where you see stacked bar of the server traffic. This is perfect to determine what type of traffic is making use of the bandwidth to monitor hosting costs.
  • Certificate Expiration Warning. As an additional convenience to administrators, MeshCentral will now warn when the TLS certificate in use is less than 20 days away from expiration. This is great news for forgetful administrators that need to manually review their TLS certificates. The warnings are only shown to administrators with a server warning messages in the “My Server” tab and notification when logging in.
  • Android Flash and Vibrate support. This is one of the fun features added to MeshCentral. When managing an Android device, you can now click the “Action” button and select to flash the device’s light or vibrate the device for a selectable amount of time. This is likely only useful as a fun demonstration of MeshCentral’s power, but it’s nice to have and a good way to impress your friends.

As usual, feedback is appreciated. If you see any problems or need support on something, please create a new issue on GitHub or help other users. For more information, visit the portal at https://meshcentral.com.

Enjoy!
