MeshCentral - Assistant Image + Multi-Agent, SSH Terminal, Wake, Customization

This week again, lots of topics to cover as MeshCentral keeps improving at a rapid pace. Starting to make use of the account picture feature since it’s now going to be displayed in MeshCentral Assistant, the Mesh Agent monitoring tool. Another big news is SSH support in the MeshCentral terminal for both desktop and mobile sites for devices that are added to a local network group. There are also added customization, improved device wake, improved device details export and more. In detail:

  • MeshCentral Assistant Account Image. MeshCentral Assistant is a Windows tool that monitors the MeshAgent and indicates in real time it’s state and if any users have active sessions on the agent. The latest version of MeshCentral Assistant will now display the real name and account image of any MeshCentral user if the real name and/or image are set for the account. This is a great way for remote users to quickly see who is connected to their computer.
  • MeshCentral Assistant Multi-agent Support. The MeshAgent can be branded with a company name, this also allows for many agents to be running at the same time as the service name and will be different for each agent. MeshCentral Assistant can now automatically detect if one or more agents have been installed and monitor any of the installed agents. If more than one agent is installed, an extra submenu will show up on the system tray menu to select what agent must be monitored.
  • SSH support in the MeshCentral terminal. A few weeks ago, MeshCentral got a new agent-less “local device” group type to allow addition of devices on the same network as the MeshCentral server that don’t have an agent installed. For this class of device, SSH support was added directly into the MeshCentral terminal for both the desktop and mobile web sites. So, you can SSH to a local device directly from MeshCentral, no agent needed. It’s all well integrated into the site.
  • Login page background image customization. MeshCentral administrators can now customize the MeshCentral login page with a background image. This is in addition to the existing customization options allowing the login screen to be branded exactly the way it need to be for your organization.
  • Improved Wake-on-LAN support. Support for device wake was improved a lot and should now be more reliable. MeshCentral has different ways to wake up a device: Server sent wake-on-LAN, agent sent wake-on-LAN and Intel® AMT. The wake-on-LAN packets are now sent out in a better way increasing the chances that the remote device will wake up.
  • Improved device details data export. MeshCentral users can now export device information with much more details than before. The CSV export option includes a lot more data making it easier to track your hardware assets.

New operating system column in the device view. When looking at all devices in the list view, MeshCentral users can configure that columns they wish to see. A new “operating system” column type was added making it easier to quickly see what operating system is running on each device.

As usual, feedback is appreciated. If you see any problems or need support on something, please create a new issue on GitHub or help other users. For more information, visit the portal at https://meshcentral.com.

Enjoy!
