MeshCentral - Android Screen Sharing, Previous Logins, Device Router Links, Router SSH, OS Filter

One more stack of improvements and new features this week. The most difficult feature to implement and the most interesting is the addition of display sharing support in the MeshCentral Agent for Android. You can now see your mobile device’s screen on MeshCentral which is very cool. The new version of the Android Agent is now on the Google Play store. On top of this, there are plenty of improvements to the main web site and MeshCentral Router. In detail:

  • Android Screen Sharing. The big news this week is that the MeshCentral Android Agent now has support for screen sharing. It works just like other operating systems except that it’s view-only and device side user consent is required. The consent prompt is shown then then administrator clicks the connect button on the web site. Once approved, the device’s screen will show up on the MeshCentral web site as one would expect. The viewer supports screen rotation, so the display will adjust when the device is rotated. This new feature was fully coded in Kotlin using the Media Projection API.
  • Review Past Account Logins. To increase security, MeshCentral now allows users to see all past login attempts on their account along with any failed login attempts. All users can see this new option in the “My Account” tab and administrators can see previous login attempt for any user account in the “My User” tab. Past login attempts are shown including time, IP address and browser type.
  • MeshCentral Router Links Customization. MeshCentral Router is popular way to route native application connection thru the MeshCentral server. You can use this for RDP, VNC, WinSCP, Putty and more. In the latest versions of MeshCentral, the administrator can now add customized MeshCentral Router links to devices. This makes it easy to customize the links to best suite the type of usages supported by your own MeshCentral server. You can also remove the default links.
  • MeshCentral Router use of built-in Windows SSH. Windows 10 comes with a built-in SSH client and MeshCentral router can now automatically detect its presence and can make use of it. In the past, only Putty was supported. Putty is still supported, but users now have more choices and the built-in SSH is often more convenient.
  • Device Operating System Filtering. Various improvements have been made to the main MeshCentral web site, one of note is that you can now filter devices by operating system type. Type “os:<string>” and only devices with the value of specified string in the operating system description will show us. For example, “os:home” will generally only show devices with Microsoft Windows Home edition installed.

In addition to this, MeshCentral has many more bug fixes and improvements. As usual, feedback is appreciated. If you see any problems or need support on something, please create a new issue on GitHub or help other users. For more information, visit the portal at https://meshcentral.com.

Enjoy!
