MeshCentral - Thermals, Windows Security, Guest Links, Messenger, Agent Console

One problem with releasing new versions of MeshCentral multiple times a day is that if you don’t write a blog with all the new features and fixes regularly, you end up with too many new features to announce. This week is one of these weeks where, after the focus on the Android agent release last week, there is a lot of feature to catch up on. So, without any more detail, here is a random list of improvements from the last weeks a bit of everything for everyone:

  • MeshCentral thermal sensor support. Big thank you to Bryan Roe this week for adding thermal sensor support in the MeshAgent for Windows, Linux and macOS. When going to a device’s details tab, you can click on the graph icon and see the thermal sensors of the platform if they are present. This is in addition to the CPU and Memory data, all of which is updated every few seconds. By the way, the thermal sensors work great on the Raspberry Pi. Perfect to see if any of your devices are overheating.
  • Windows Security Center support. Once again, thank you to Bryan Roe for this one. MeshCentral now displays the Windows Security Center AV, Firewall and system update status in real-time of the device’s page. If, for example, a user turns off the firewall on a system, it will immediately show up on the web page. Very slick, and once again, showcasing the value of having a live web page.
  • Guest sharing account permission. Users on MeshCentral can use the device guest sharing system to create a time limited URL that can be given to any user to view and control a device’s desktop or terminal session. This week, we added an account permission for this allowing administrator to allow of deny users this feature. This was requested by the community as not all servers will need this feature. In fact, we also added a way to turn off the guest feature domain wide.
  • MeshCentral Messenger customization. Another feature requested by the community was a way to customize the Messenger system built into MeshCentral with custom company name and logo. This is now supported with new configuration options. In addition to this, MeshCentral Messenger will now display an animation when the remote user is typing. This is typical for chat applications and a welcome addition to MeshCentral.
  • Expanded Linux Testing of the MeshAgent. Bryan Roe has a large amount of Linux virtual machines that he testes the MeshAgent on. This week, various Linux distributions where added that run the Cinnamon desktop. In addition, many more fixes where many to how the MeshAgent installs and updates on Linux.
  • Agent Console on the Mobile Web Site. This last one is especially useful for debugging MeshCentral and requested by developers. MeshCentral has an agent console that is used to send keyboard commands directly to the MeshAgent. This console is now included in the MeshCentral mobile web site allowing developers to send test commands to agents while on the go.

In addition to this, MeshCentral has many more bug fixes and improvements. As usual, feedback is appreciated. If you see any problems or need support on something, please create a new issue on GitHub or help other users. If you have not done so already, visit the new portal at https://meshcentral.com, it looks great.

Enjoy!
