MeshCentral - Security Tracking, Dark Mode, Mobile App URL, Agent Update, Router Branding

This week again we have another stack of MeshCentral improvements, much of it was driven by community requests and so, continuing along the path to making MeshCentral the best open source remote management software available. A lot of bug fixes are occurring under the covers and on GitHub, but this week we have a wide array on noticeable improvements, from security filtering to dark mode and improved branding. In detail:

  • Windows Security Center overview and filter. The Microsoft Windows Security Center provides information on antivirus, firewall and automatic Windows updates. This information is already relayed in real-time on the MeshCentral web page. This week, we added this information to the device group summary page so that you can quickly see for each device group how many devices have issues like a disabled firewall or automatic update turned off. In addition, there are now new search filters so you can quickly focus in on devices with issues.
  • Browser and OS dark mode automatic selection. Modern Windows, macOS and Android browsers have support for letting the web page know if a user prefers dark mode. MeshCentral now reads this value and automatically adjusts to match the user’s preference. Users can still override the OS setting if they like.
  • Mobile application dark mode support. The MeshCentral mobile application is taking more importance as many users increasingly use it to perform remote management operations and remote the desktop of other devices. This week, dark mode support was added to the mobile site making the site look great even at night and more usable in low light situations.
  • Mobile application URL tracking. The MeshCentral mobile application will now dynamically change the URL of the web page to track where the user is in the web application. This is great as users can now bookmark a specific devices or location in the web app and navigate back to that location anytime. Before this, the web app would always start at the main “devices” page. For example, you can now refresh the page and the web app will re-load and go right back to where it was.
  • Batch agent update. This has been a community request for a while. MeshCentral can be set to not automatically update MeshAgents. In this mode, administrators can now batch select many devices and force an agent update by pressing the “Group Action” button. This is also great for the developers that want to perform batch testing of agent updates.

MeshCentral Router for Windows branding. The MeshCentral Router allows for TCP and UDP port mappings thru the MeshCentral server and is widely used to communicate across networks when a VPN would be difficult to setup. This week, along with bug fixes, MeshCentral Router for Windows has gained customization support. You can now provide your own text and graphics and the tool will detect and load them on start. Great way to expand your compagnie’s branding beyond the MeshCentral website itself. Note that this change only applies to the Windows version of MeshCentral Router, not the macOS version.

In addition to this, MeshCentral has many more bug fixes and improvements. As usual, feedback is appreciated. If you see any problems or need support on something, please create a new issue on GitHub or help other users. For more information, visit the portal at https://meshcentral.com.

Enjoy!
