MeshCentral - 2019 Review and New Features

2019 has been a wonderful year for MeshCentral. The code base has gained many new features over the year, but what is even more impressive is the GitHub community around the project. Here is the MeshCentral 2019 Year in Review (PDF), it gives a nice overview of the community and interest around MeshCentral. There are a bunch more big features being worked on, but for now here are just some of the features that here added at the end of 2019.
  • Dutch translation. Peter van Vlijman is our latest community volunteer to contribute a language translation to MeshCentral. After Czech and Portuguese translations announced last time, Peter contributed the Dutch translation and continues to improve the Dutch version and keep up with updates. Thanks Peter for your hard work!
  • Device Group Summary. When clicking on a device group, there is now a new “Summary” tab that shows live graphs of the computers in this group. Just like the rest of the MeshCentral user interface that is fully real-time, the graphics on the summary page will change automatically as devices connect and disconnect.
  • Raspberry Pi Icon. One of the fun usages for MeshCentral is to remotely control and manage Raspberry Pi devices. It was only a matter of time before the community requested that the Raspberry Pi get it’s own logo on the MeshCentral web site. The MeshAgent supports remote files, terminal and desktop remoting for the Raspberry Pi, just like other devices.
  • Collapsing Groups. As MeshCentral is being used to manage an increasing number of devices, the user interface must adapt to deal with this. In the new version of the user interface, you can now collapse groups of devices, making it easy to go directly to the right device group your looking for. In addition to this, the search & filter box has also been improved.
  • Hiding the Footer. The MeshCentral user interacted is not only real-time, it’s also somewhat adaptable. The small diamond on the upper right of the user interface allows the user to switch how the user interface looks, go into night mode and now, hide the footer bar for added screen space.

There are many more features coming in 2020. There is no chance of keeping up with the feature requests, but that is a great problem to have.

Hi everyone. It’s been a while since the last blog post and I wanted up update everyone on what is going on. As many of you know already from a discussion on GitHub , Bryan and I have been laid-off from Intel in early November 2022. This was quite a surprise as MeshCentral, MeshCommander, MeshCMD and other tools where widely used. This said, Intel has been having poor financials and Bryan and I where part of a very large first wave of downsizing by the company that involved many people that I know and worked with for a long time. MeshCentral - Windows ARM64, NodeJS v11, NPM Packages

Hi all. It's been a while since I last posted and now that I am settling a bit more in my work at Microsoft, I have a bit of time to occasionally look after MeshCentral again. It's about time, there where a bunch of things that needed to get fixed. Before that, I want to say that I am doing great. I am working on Microsoft Forms which is one of the offerings of Microsoft 365. For kicks, I started a YouTube channel on Microsoft Forms here during a Microsoft hacking week. I tried to up my game since the videos I last published for MeshCentral. Also, I wanted to share pictures below. I was at a Tesla Supercharger last weekend and, by luck, got to see a Tesla Cybertruck in person. It's very big. Obviously, this is a release candidate driven by a Tesla employee. MeshCentral - New Windows Agents - Installation Dialog, Customization and Server Lock

Lots is going on with MeshCentral, just yesterday Bryan Roe released a new MeshAgent for Windows with many improvements. An improved installation dialog box, logo customization and, to continue MeshCentral’s leadership in security, a new agent code signing locking feature that will surely be used by many to improve trust and security of their MeshCentral installation. In addition to this, we have many more server improvements to cover. In detail: MeshAgent with improved installation dialog box . The new MeshAgent for Windows is much improved with months of changes and bug fixes. The most noticeable feature is by far the new installation dialog with the new logo and connection details button.
